Monthly community forum and launch of MET's Professional Network Series 2020. The title of this month's talk is, Corporate Social Responsibility and Marketing: An Integrative Framework. Our speaker is Mr. Marcelino Alvarez, Chief Product Officer at Fresh Consulting, where he leads strategic initiatives that sit at the intersection of public policy, corporate innovation, and startup ecosystems. Winners of our 19th Annual Kareem Family Science Fair will also be recognized that evening with their cash prizes and personalized trophies, God willing. Please join us! About the MET Professional Network (MPN): MPN is a networking channel within the community to foster professional relationships and encourage a spirit of innovation. Our Goals are:
- To drive economic development in the greater Portland area by promoting, connecting, and advocating professionals, businesses, and individuals with big ideas
- To bring about dignity and empowerment to our community through small business entrepreneurship and micro-finance opportunities
Meet Marcelino Alvarez:
Marcelino serves as the Chief Product Officer at Fresh Consulting, where he leads strategic initiatives that sit at the intersection of public policy, corporate innovation, and startup ecosystems. Marcelino joined Fresh via acquisition of Uncorked Studios, a product design firm that he co-founded in 2010 and served as CEO. Uncorked began as a mobile design and development studio and expanded its core offering into emerging tech (IoT, AR, AI) over the years. They worked with innovation teams and product teams across industries and geographies, including Nike, Google, Facebook, and Samsung, as well as a number of nonprofits including the Bezos Family Foundation, the March of Dimes, Magnum Foundation, and Fringe Diplomacy. Prior to Uncorked, he served as Executive Interactive Producer at Wieden + Kennedy. He produced the Nike Chalkbot, a robot that printed messages of hope and inspiration on the Tour de France in 2009 and 2010. He's a cofounder of Safecast, an open data initiative to help residents of Japan report and understand the levels of radiation following the Fukushima earthquake and nuclear disaster, and Incúbate, one of the first design-thinking workshops in Havana, Cuba. He is also a co-founder of PIE Shop, a connected device incubator that is part of the Portland Incubator Experiment and is hosted at Autodesk's Oregon headquarters. He sits on the boards of the Freshwater Trust and PSU's Center for Retail Leadership. Marcelino enjoys chatting about baseball, public policy, urban mobility, and sustainable systems. His dream project that brings all these together involves getting the Marlins to relocate to Portland to reside in an eco-friendly waterfront stadium with a kayak pool in left field. He and his wife Margaret have a son Caleb (3), daughter Lucia (2), a dog named Luke, and a cat named Calvin. Thank you so much for your support, and we look forward to seeing you, in shaa Allah (God willing)!
