This competition is open to all children in the community entering grades 1 thru 12 in 2018-19, as well as college students and adults, each within their designated category.
11th Annual Community-wide MET Quran Contest
We are pleased to announce details of MET's 11th Annual Community-wide MET Quran Contest scheduled on Saturday, May 25, in shaa Allah. Children in 1st-12th grade during the current school year of 2018-2019 will compete in their memorization and understanding of the following Surahs of the Holy Quran:
1st-5th Grade in 2018-19:
Level 1: Chapter 46: Surah Al-Ahqaaf سورة الأحقاف
Level 2: Chapter 54: Surah Al-Qamar سورة القمر
Level 3: Chapter 76: Surah Al-Insaan سورة الإنسان
6th-12th Grade in 2018-19:
Level 1: Chapter 40: Surah Ghafir سورة غافر
Level 2: Chapter 13: Surah Ar-Raad سورة الرعد
Level 3: Chapter 48: Surah Al-Fat-h سورة الفتح
College Students and Adults:
Level 1: Chapter 20: Surah Taha سورة طه
Quran Contest Prizes
There will be 3 winners at each level for each age group as follows:
1st Prize: $150
2nd Prize: $100
3rd Prize: $75
1st Prize: $100
2nd Prize: $75
3rd Prize: $50
1st Prize: $75
2nd Prize: $50
3rd Prize: $30
As you can see, within 1st-12th grade, there are three levels for each age group. When registering your child for this contest, please make sure to clearly indicate the surah(s) in which s/he will be competing. Please note that children may compete in their memorization and understanding of more than one surah within their grade level.
May Allah, the Most Gracious, enlighten the hearts and minds of our children and youth with the love of God and His Prophet, and make them live by the timeless teachings of the Holy Quran and the great example of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him, ameen.
Judging and Tie-Breaking Criteria
Judging Criteria include how much of the Surah has been memorized and the fluency and quality of the recitation with correct enunciation (makhaarej) and vowels.
Tie-Breaking criteria include Recitation Quality (speed, enunciation, etc.), use of Tajweed, and Tafseer (explaining the general meaning of the Surah, including the reason of revelation and whether the Surah was revealed in Makkah or Madinah.
Important Registration Guidelines
You may register up to three siblings on one form. Registration form needs to be completed and turned in or faxed to the MET Office no later than Friday, May 17, 2019.
Late entries AND changes in levels or surahs in which a child is participating will NOT be accepted past this date.
When filling out the registration form, please make sure to give or decline permission for photo and video footage.
Winners will be announced by MET by email within 48 hours of the contest.
We look forward to a great contest, and more importantly to a better understanding and memorization of the Holy Quran on part of our children and youth, inshaa'Allah.
